CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Parks & Recreation will celebrate the third anniversary of Clarksville’s popular bike share program, Clarksville BCycle, with free bike rides. Third-year milestones include 9,600 trips that covered almost 65,000 miles and allowed riders to burn 2.5 million calories.
Residents are invited to use the promo code “1320” when checking out a bike from one of Clarksville BCycle’s five stations from Jan. 13-20 to receive a free 60-minute bike ride. Usage fees apply after the first hour. Stations are at Austin Peay State University; Liberty Park; Cumberland Riverwalk at McGregor Park; the Clarksville Greenway’s Pollard Road trailhead; and downtown at the corner of Public Square and Franklin Street. Bikes checked out from one station may be returned to any of the other stations.
Clarksville BCycle launched in January 2016 with two stations at Liberty and McGregor parks. The project was made possible in part by a group of Clarksville Academy students and a grant from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation. Stations were added at the Clarksville Greenway and on Public Square in 2017. In August 2018, a fifth station was added at APSU. Thanks to an intergovernmental agreement and the students’ sustainability fee, that station is available for use by APSU students at no cost.
"What started as a two-station park amenity has grown into a program that provides our residents, visitors and APSU students the opportunity to make connections and explore Clarksville in a way that boosts activity levels and contributes to a healthier community," said Jennifer Letourneau, Clarksville Parks and Recreation Director.
Memberships start at $3 and entitle the rider to unlimited 60-minute bike rides during the membership period. Rides lasting longer than an hour incur a $1 usage fee for each additional 30 minutes. Individuals can purchase monthly and annual memberships online that allow the rider to skip the kiosk and check out bikes directly from the dock using the app or fob.
