This week is National Security Guard Appreciation Week and to celebrate, we will be highlighting the faces of our Security & Loss Prevention team that oversee City Hall, Clarksville Transit System, Clarksville Gas & Water, City Court, Clarksville Parks & Recreation, and the over 350 municipal properties throughout the community.
Our first highlight is none other than William Welty, Security & Loss Prevention Supervisor.
William is a public safety specialist with more than 28 years of service in various fields. He holds degrees and graduate-level certificates in Homeland Security, Fire Science, and Emergency Management. He is a Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPP), the highest level of five certifications that can be obtained through the National Sheriffs’ Association.
He is a state-certified trainer for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Private Protective Services - a Nationally and State Certified emergency medical responder; a state, Pro Board, and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress certified Firefighter; and a Tennessee Emergency Management Agency Certified Hazardous Materials Technician.
William spent 13 years of his career as an Assistant Chief for the Montgomery County Fire Service, holding certifications in Vehicle Extrication, Emergency Medical Response, Trench Rescue, Confined Space, Low Angle Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, Urban Search-and-Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response.
William has been with the City of Clarksville since 2008 when he was brought on as a contracted security officer. He later became a City employee in 2016 and has since worked his way up to his current role as Security & Loss Prevention Supervisor. He has also served as a Marine Security and Safety Officer for the last eight years for the United States Coast Guard, 8th Eastern Region, Division 11.
