Dragon Boat Racing, F2Con, and Cardboard Regatta coming to Riverfest

Annual festival returns with new and traditional events

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The 33rd annual Riverfest festival, held September 9th and 10th at McGregor Park, will feature its traditional Cardboard Boat Regatta race and two new events, Dragon Boat Racing and F2Con.

Dragon Boat Racing

New to the festival this year, Dragon Boat Racing offers an opportunity to compete and enjoy the Cumberland River in a whole new way.

Hosted by the Cumberland River Compact, a nonprofit that works to enhance the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries, Dragon Boat racing is rooted in ancient Chinese tradition dating back more than 2000 years, but today it is a modern and international sport enjoyed by many. Decorative dragon boats are occupied by 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and one steerer. Teams race approximately 200 meters in heats throughout the day for the best time and the Grand Champion title.

Dragon Boat racing is an exciting team-building opportunity for civic and community groups, corporate groups, and individuals. It requires teamwork and synchronicity in the boat, making this a great sport for participants of all skill levels.

F2Con

F2CON, powered by CDE Lightband, will now be included as part of Riverfest 2022, at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. The event will take place over both days of the festival and is open to all skill levels.

F2CON will feature 14 tournaments with a $10,000 pot bonus across various titles like Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter V, Super Bros SMASH Ultimate, and more.

Open play events such as Fortnite, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 2v2, and Rocket Leauge will also be available.

Cardboard Boat Regatta

The traditional Cardboard Boat Regatta is back and will be held on September 10, 2022, at the McGregor Park boat ramp.

Teams will build their vessel out of cardboard and race 100 yards down the Cumberland River. Awards will be presented based on boat design, boat aesthetics, team unity, costumes, and the infamous Titanic Award.

The event is open to all ages and makes a great opportunity for STEM classes, team building amongst coworkers, a creative outlet for a group of friends, or a family looking for some competition.
