Clarksville Parks & Recreation establishes new community program “The Hub”
Program will take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Parks & Recreation, with the support of local community partners, will host a community wellness hub on August 23 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and continue on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Burt-Cobb Recreation Center. The goal of this free event is to unite community resources in one location with activities and services for children, their guardians, or individuals in need.
The mission of the program is to be a trusted resource for neighbors by bridging community resources already in place, such as fitness and activity information, health screenings, and other wellness services, in order to better serve the needs of underrepresented populations in the community. Planning partners for the event include APSU Health & Human Performance, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region, Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, and Clarksville Neighborhood & Community Services.
Michelle Austin, Deputy Director for Clarksville Parks and Recreation, says the vision of The Hub is to inform the public of the resources available to them and make those resources more accessible.
“We envision this project as a collaborative effort among the existing service providers in the area,” said Austin. “Career development workshops, free meals, community gardens, to mental health services will be offered. The structure of The Hub will depend on the needs of the community.”
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Interested community service providers are invited to attend an informational meeting on July 14 at 2:00 p.m in the Clarksville City Council Chambers at 106 Public Sq.
If you are ready to sign up for our first Hub kickoff event on August 23, at Burt Cobb Recreation Center visit ClarksvilleParksRec.com to register to be a Hub Partner. Clarksville Parks & Rec will provide a table and chairs. Booth space is free.
