City of Clarksville announces new business license requirements

CLARKSVILLE, TN - The City of Clarksville Finance and Revenue and Building and Codes Departments are teaming up with a new prerequisite for business licenses.

Before being issued a business license through the Finance and Revenue Department, Building and Codes must first verify the use of the property. This will ensure businesses are in a location that is properly zoned before being issued a license.

Business owners will need to fill out the Use Verification Form online and it will go to the Building and Codes Department for zoning approval. Once approved by Building and Codes, Finance and Revenue will be notified and will contact the business owner via email informing them of their approved use for zoning.

At this point, the business owner will be able to complete the Business License Application and receive their business license after paying the $15.00 fee.

“We are hopeful that this new prerequisite will ensure that all new businesses are compliant with zoning prior to opening, rather than finding out after the fact and possibly placing their investment in jeopardy. Our goal is to put business owners on the right path before they open'', said Building and Codes Director David Smith.

The link to the Use Verification Form can be found here. The link to the application, along with more information, can also be found on the City’s website at https://www.cityofclarksville.com/178/Business-Tax-Information.

For more information regarding zoning or the Use Verification form, please contact the Building and Codes Department at (931) 645-7426.
